As a general rule of thumb, use wire brushes and combs that are meant for wigs only. If you’re wearing a synthetic wig, never use a heated styling tool or you’ll end up melting it. Heated tools are okay to use on a human hair wig, but keep it at a low heat to prevent burning. To style, place the wig on your wig stand and remove the tangles with a wire brush. Next, use wig spray or a hairspray with very little alcohol to set the style. If you have some wig accessories, like headbands, scarves or barrettes, add them for a little extra flair.
If you're not happy with the length or thickness of your wig, you can always have it trimmed by a professional hairstylist. Just remember- once you cut a wig, it can never grow back, so don't get too carried away! Wear it to your appointment and ask the stylist to give you a cut that flatters your face. If you want a natural look, go with bangs. If you want something that's more low maintenance, opt for a short, stylish cut. Stylists can even dye your human hair wig if you want to spice up the color.
